    1. 2009/10 Scott County AmeriCorps

    3. Overview of Scott County AmeriCorps There will be 28 total AmeriCorps Members in our program The Positions are as follows: Full Time, Part Time, Reduced Part Time, Quarter Time and Minimum Time Full Time = 1700 hours; Part Time = 900 hours; Reduced Part Time = 675 hours; Quarter Time = 450 hours; Minimum Time = 300 hours

Currently there are available: 8 900 hour positions 5 675 hour positions 2 450 hour positions 2 450 hour positions (educational award only, no living allowance) 3 300 hour positions 2 300 hour positions (educational award only, no living allowance) There are NO full-time positions available.

    5. AmeriCorps Living Allowance Half Time (900)- $5,500 Reduced Half Time (675)- $3,700 Quarter Time (450)- $2,650 Minimum Time (300)- $1,950 We also have 300 hour positions for internships that are Education Award Only.

    6. AmeriCorps Educational Award Part Time (900)- $2,362.50 Half Time (675)- $1,800 Quarter Time (450)- $1,200 Minimum Time (300)- $1,000 You have seven years to use your educational award. The award can be used for college classes or to pay student loans at accredited institutions. Current student loans can be deferred during your time of service.

    7. Educational Award and College Some colleges throughout Indiana will match the educational award Indiana University in Bloomington-School of Public and Environmental Affairs will match the educational award. IU, IUPUI, IU-Fort Wayne will offer additional credits for students who participated in AmeriCorps IUS and IUPUC allow work study students to serve in AmeriCorps as part of their curriculum.

    8. Service Sites Scott County Community Clearinghouse: The Clearinghouse serves people of Scott County in crisis situations. At the Clearinghouse they may receive emergency food, clothing, energy assistance, and Salvation Army assistance. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates): CASA of Scott County is a program that trains community volunteers to serve as advocates for our communitys most severely abused, abandoned and neglected children. CASA serves children who, for their own protection, have been removed from their homes and placed in foster care.

    9. Service Sites Adult Education Center: The AEC is located at the LifeLong Learning Center. The program provides GED classes and other programs where individuals may work on literacy skills and help in math and/or reading. Second Chance: Second Chance is a credit recovery program offered through the AEC for High School Students who need to catch up on credits in order to graduate. Second Chance is located at the Cyber Caf. Austin Learning Center: This is an after-school program for 1st through 8th grade students of Scott County School District 1. Homework Help and Enrichment activities are provided. The ALC also provides a summer program for students during the summer break.

    10. Service Sites. The EDGE After School Program: This program provides after school programming for students of Scottsburg Middle school. The program provides homework help & enrichment activities. Summer programming is offered during summer break. Drop Out Prevention: Scott County Attendance Review Board coordination & follow-up, Drop Out Prevention Task Force communication, help with other drop out prevention programs as needed.

    11. Service Sites Kids Place: Provides early childhood services, childcare and other programs. Kids Place also works with Kindergarten readiness and early childhood literacy. OVO Head Start: Head Start is a federally funded comprehensive early child development program for children between the ages of 3 and 5. The Head Start program provides high quality services for eligible children and their families including children with special needs and disabilities.

    12. Service Sites Futures UnLTD: Serves an exclusive adult population with developmental and/or physical disabilities. All services are intended to assist consumers reach the highest level of independence regarding personal, social and vocational skills. Volunteer Recruitment & Management: This person recruits & manages volunteers for Career Clusters, Reality Stores, Lunch Buddies, Back to School Bash, and other projects/programs for which volunteers are needed.

    13. Contract The AmeriCorps term of service is 12 months. It begins September 1, 2009 and ends August 31, 2010. Members sign a contract committing to the AmeriCorps Program. The contract lists all regulations and rules that the Program encompasses.

    14. Eligibility The I-9(Immigration) form is NOT a significant source of documentation for member eligibility You must show a birth certificate or U.S. passport upon enrollment to verify proof of age All candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have either a high school diploma or GED. A copy of your high school diploma or GED will be required for enrollment in the program.

    15. Eligibility. All candidates will have a criminal background check preformed. The background check encompasses any states where you have lived in the past 10 years. A National Sex Offender Registry Check is also required. Must sign statement saying that you are enrolled in the program contingent upon results of background checks.

    16. Health Care and Child Care Health Care Benefits are available for full time members who wish to utilize the service. Child Care assistance is also available from the federal government for full time members.

    17. Supervison Members will be placed at the Clearinghouse, Adult Education Center, Second Chance, Kids Place, Drop Out Prevention, Austin Learning Center, Futures UnLTD, CASA, OVO Head Start, After School Programs, and in Volunteer Recruitment. Members will report to a site supervisor at their service site. The AmeriCorps Director has responsibility over all of the service sites and the entire AmeriCorps Program. The Director has an assistant to help with most of the data-keeping. Members are welcome to contact either the Assistant or the Director for help or answers to questions. If you have any questions, concerns, or problems please contact the site supervisor first and then the AmeriCorps Director. If you dont feel comfortable talking to the site supervisor, please contact the AmeriCorps Director.

    18. Skill Development/Training Professional development activities and training will be on topics such as: leadership styles, learning styles, working with children & youth, working with adults, understanding economic classes and systems, personality types, methods of motivation, civic engagement, social skills in the work place, technology classes, Life-After-AmeriCorps, etc.

    19. Interview/Application Process Applications are due to Jene Bridgewater no later than August 19, 2009 by 5:00 PM. Please also submit a resume if you have one. Interviews will take place shortly after the application deadline-You will receive a call to set up an interview if you pass preliminary requirements. The interview will consist of questions from myself and other site supervisors.     22. How AmeriCorps is Helping Our Community.. In 2008-2009, AmeriCorps members served a total of 18,275 hours throughout Scott County. $50,875 were given to AmeriCorps members in education awards. For the past three years, Scott County AmeriCorps members have received approximately $128,500 in educational awards for their service.

Interesting Facts Chelsea Clinton and members of the Boston Celtics Basketball team have participated in AmeriCorps Since the Sept.11th terrorist attacks, the amount of AmeriCorps members has increased by 40% First Lady Michelle Obama directed one of the first AmeriCorps programs in Chicago.
