What is home based learning? • Students are not in school due to school closure. • Students are expected to be at home learning but they can be anyway with a notebook and network connection. • Tutorials and lectures can be home based. • Practicals, a bit harder. • PE lessons, let’s wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Why home based learning? • Schools can close anytime. • If schools close too long, how can lessons continue? • Schools are expected to have in place home based learning within three working days of the start of school closure.
When is home based learning? • I don’t know. Hopefully never.
When is home based learning? • The next scheduled home based learning will be on 26 Feb 2009.
Who is involved in home based learning in Term 1? • All IP1, IP2, JC1 students for 26 Feb
Where? • Anyway with a notebook/computer and network connection.
How to have home based learning? • These can be divided into two categories. • Asynchronous and Synchronous
Synchronous examples we can relate to. • At the same time. • Eg, talking face to face. • Instant Messaging (when the other person is around) • Telephone call
Asynchronous examples we can relate to. • Email (especially when the other person is not online or refuses to constantly check email) • Writing letters.
Elearning Asynchronous • Blackboard • Breeze • Materials to download • Online quizes • Forums • Videos
Elearning Synchronous • Instant Messaging (eg google talk, MSN) • Google presentations • Dimdim (one of the most complex but potentially the most useful replacement for lectures and tutorials)
