4. Investigation Begins On March 5th, FBI starts investigating the Rodney King incident
On March 7th, Los Angeles Police Chief Gates announces that the officers involved will be prosecuted
On March 15th, the 4 officers were arraigned on charges with assault with a deadly weapon and use of excessive force
5. THE TRIAL Venue of trial was relocated from LA to the suburbs of Simi Valley, in Ventura
The jury had 10 Caucasians, 1 Latino, 1 Filipino-American
6. The City Erupts On April 29th 1992, At 3:15pm the jury acquits all 4 LAPD Officers
At 5pm the rioting begins in LA
7. AFTERMATH The National Guard was called to restore order to the city
42 people were killed
700 businesses were destroyed
5000 people were arrested
LA suffered 1 billion in property damages

8. 2nd Time Around The officers were accused of violating Rodney Kings civil rights
On April 10th 1993, began deliberating and on April 17th was the day of the verdict
Officers Koon & Powell were found guilty
Officers Wind & Briseno were acquitted
9. Convicted Convicted Sgt. Stacey Koon, age 42 married
He served 2 yrs in Federal Prison
Convicted Ofc. Laurence Powell, age 30 single
He served 2 yrs in Federal Prison
