Intern Year • six months on the OB/GYN service • Off-service rotations • Surgical intensive care unit(SICU) • internal medicine outpatient clinics combined with breast clinics, • emergency room • family medicine outpatient clinics 5. Breast Clinic • Ultrasound
Intern Year - Goals • provide direct patient care under the supervision and guidance of more senior residents and faculty • Assisting/primary in cesarean sections • learning the discriminate use of the forceps/vacuum in delivery • Develop knowledge for USMLE 3
Second Year - Goals • Manage the labor and delivery suite • Assist in major GYN procedures and perform the majority of minor • Perform cesarean sections and assume care for those patients • More experience in the selection and use of obstetrical forceps
Second Year • Six months managing L&D • Five months on GYN service • One month of Ultrasound
Third Year • Two months of OB Service • Five months of GYN Service • Four months of L&D • One month of Endocrinology & Infert.
Third Year - Goals • Perform as junior “senior” resident • manage the oncologic patients, endo- infertility patient and the urodynamic clinic patients • primary surgeons for most hysterectomies • Manage high risk obstetric patients • Assume teaching roles
Fourth Year • Chief Residents • term as "Administrative Chief Resident" in charge of scheduling conferences, arranging case presentations, assigning clinic duties and making call schedules • expected to be well versed with every inpatient • Prepare for private/academic practice
Typical “Call” Night • Board Runner (usually 2nd year, once a month 3rd year in two 12hr shifts) • Intern- managing triage • Backup (intern/2nd year) • Senior (3rd or 4th year) • Faculty
