  3. Conservatism: Enemy of the liberal • Conservative = advocates status quo or a return to the old traditional ways

  4. Most Importantly, Conservatism places State Interests above Individual Interests

  5. 19th Century Liberalism • Liberal = advocate of change • Two ‘branches’ of 19th century liberalism • Capitalism and laissez-faire (Classical Liberalism) • Socialism

  11. Side Note…In 20th century America… • Conservative means less gov’t and advocates classical liberal ideas • Liberals are often seen as advocates of government intervention
