Shifts in Assessment in HCPSS • The Common Core will be assessed with new innovative item structures that were not used on previous assessments. • Local assessments were administered within a testing window that did not align with some students’ needs. • Assessments should drive daily instruction and customizing assessments will allow for more timely data-driven decision making. • Teacher-designed assessments will increase teacher knowledge of Common Core standards.
Our New Direction… • Avoids over-testing by replacing formal local assessments with a menu of tasks that can be used at the discretion of each teacher. • Provides teachers with assessment examples to develop their understanding of CCSS. • Provides opportunities for students to work with rigorous items. • Provides models that teachers can use to develop their own assessment items. • Supports data conversations.
