Online Dangers Cyber Bullying • Bullying that occurs over an electronic device • Text Messages • E-mails • Social Networks • Online Games • Cyber Bullying can have long lasting effects due to the nature of the internet
Internet Users Who uses the internet? • There are currently over 3.6 Billion internet users worldwide • 88% of North Americans currently use the internet • 95% of Teens ages 12-17 access the internet and 74%do so from a mobile device • 96% of Children 8-11 used the internet in 2013 • Children as young as 3-4 spend at least 6.5 hours a week online • Nearly all children less than 3 use a smart device on a regular basis in the United States
Internet Users How do we use it? • To Communicate and Consume Media !!! • 72% of all internet users are now active on social media • 18-29 year olds 89% usage • 30-49 year olds 72% usage • 65+ bracket 43% usage • The average Facebook user spends 40 mins a day on the site • YouTube viewers spent 37,000 years worth of time watching the top 10 music videos in 2015 !!! • 12-15 year olds have an average of 272 social network friends
What to look for? Warning Signs • Any abrupt change in routine or behavior • Sudden withdrawal from using computers, tablets, smartphone, or online gaming consoles • Shows anxiety about receiving digital messages • Avoids conversations about online activity
