Visual Thinking process • Has 4 steps- • Looking • Seeing • Imagining • Showing • Human beings do it all the time • Happens unconsciously • Helps us in doing work smoothly
Looking • Passive process • Scanning the environment • Initial Big Picture of things • Making initial assessment of the surroundings • “Looking” answers the following questions • What is it? • What items are there? • What are not there?
Seeing • Active process • Selecting inputs worth processing • Trying to recognize patterns • Seeing answers following questions- • Do I know what am seeing? • Have I seen this before? • How many items are there? • Do they belong to a group?
Imagining • Manipulating what we saw • Finding out hidden patterns in them • Trying to see what is not seen • Imagining answers the following- • Where have I seen this before? • Can I rearrange them? • Can I discover a hidden pattern? • Does it mean something else?
Showing • Conveying what we have seen to others • Communicating our ideas and logic • Put it down in writing • Seeing answers the following questions- • How can I convey what I have seen to my audience? • How do I share what I have seen? • Will it be same as what I have seen?
