Bridgewater State College General Education Review – 2002/2003
Today’s Event… • Introduction • Remarks by President Mohler-Faria • Remarks by Provost Klenieweski • Remarks by Student Trustee Tara Auciello • Remarks by MSCA President Stonehouse • Comments on the Review Process
How We Reached This Point… • Early Spring 2002 – Faculty Vote • Spring 2002 – Committee Formed • Members of ACC or UCC • Chair’s of ACC and UCC agree to co-chair • Looked for “balance” in making appointments • Summer 2002 – Co-chairs “organize” process
Web Site… • webhost.bridgew.edu/ger • Contents: • Information • Discussion Boards Hopefully a chief mechanism for campus involvement.
The Process… • Envision a four-stage GER review process: • Define desired outcomes / desired content • Define a delivery mechanism • Define an administrative mechanism • Define an assessment mechanism Do not mean to imply a necessarily linear process; stages may be overlapped and intertwined.
Where We Stand… • Begun to ask the “Outcomes Question” • Email to Chairs asking Depts. to consider two questions: • “What should all students know about your discipline?” • “What should your students gain from a GER program?” • Planning for student and alumni focus groups and campus-wide open forums.
How can you become involved… • Participate in Departmental Meetings on GER Review. • Participate in Discussion Boards. • Participate in Open Forums.
