Compulsions • Rely on rituals to stabilise me if life is unstable- survival strategy? • If things are aligned physically then perhaps they will become alligned mentally • Aspergers Egg Whisk- Small problems can escalate
Obsessions • Doctor Who obsession- highlighted my desperation to be free and to prove myself • Obsessions can change frequently
Obsessions • Give outsiders a wonderful insight into the mindset of people with Aspergers • Obsessions are quite a useful tool • Indicator for career options?
Getting Reactions • Having an impact on someone else’s life- perhaps gives a feeling of power or control?
Socially Unacceptable Humour • Part of the desire to create a shocked reaction in others • Also provides laughter- which is a valuable tool
Communication • Can dominate conversation • Awkward Silences- thankfully now less frequent • Learnt to express emotions effectively-which is a big issue for a person on the spectrum
Socialising • Socialising is always stressful • However, it is possible for people on the spectrum to have a circle of friends
Socialising • Good idea to have some time in the week where there is no pressure to socialise • Initiate solo time- almost build it into the diary
Finding New Friends & Meeting New People • I had to be learn how to do this effectively • Strategies... • Was terrified of the prospect of going through the process again at University • Individualising life...
