COLOR WHEEL Colors are divided into groups or “schemes”. • Primary • Secondary • Tertiary/Intermediate • Complementary • Analogous • Warm /Cool
Red Blue Yellow PRIMARY COLORS CANNOT BE MADE FROM OTHER COLORS
Violet Green Orange Secondary colors can be created BY mixing primary colors.

SCULPTURE An ARMATURE is: • The skeleton that supports the material by which the sculpture is made (i.e. clay, paper mache, etc.)
The Principles of Design • …are the rules by which we use the ELEMENTS. • The recipe or guidelines on how to use the elements of design.
The Principles are: • Balance • Contrast • Emphasis • Rhythm • Movement • Proportion • Unity • Pattern
BALANCE Balance is a feeling of equality or stability in a piece of artwork. There are three types: • Symmetrical • Asymmetrical • Radial
CONTRAST • … is achieved by using opposite elements in an artwork to create interest.
RHYTHM • Rhythm is created when similar elements repeat, creating a sense of movement. Repeating elements do NOT have to be exactly alike.
MOVEMENT • …is the way the human eye travels through an artwork in a particular direction.
UNITY • .. is when SIMILAR elements work together to create harmony (mood or theme).
EMPHASIS • … is the focal point in an artwork, or the most important part.
