Which researchinfrastructures (RIs) should we support? • Does the RI enable frontier research and provide added value? • Does the RI have data and access policies for openess? • Do the hosting institutions have a long term plan to support the RI? • Does the RI have national and international relevance for researchers and beyond academia? • Are the technical, institutional and personnel requirements feasible and sustainable throughout the whole life cycle of the RI?

Tasks of the National Research Infrastructure Committee (FIRI) as laid down by the law of Academy of Finland • Monitor and develop Finnish and international research infrastructure activity • Up-date national roadmap for research infrastructures (2014, 2021…) • Govern allocation of annual FIRI grants and monitor funded infrastructures • Take care of other infrastructure tasks as assigned to it by the Academy Board

Finland’smembership in CERN • Finland has been a member since 1991 • Finland’smembership is coordinatedthrough: • Academy Finland (national support, membership fees) • Helsinki Institute of Physics (coordination of scientificactivities) • In addition to membership fee: National Research Infrastructure Committee has funded Finnish partnerships in following projects of CERN: • CMS • ALICE • 760 000€ for 2014-2015 • 490 660€ for 2016-2017
