Definition • A genetic disorder of high cholesterol
Symptoms • High cholesterol • Heart disease • Heart attacks • Fatty skin deposits • Cholesterol deposits in the eyelids • Chest pains or other signs of heart disease
Treatments Diet • Decreasing the amounts of beef, chicken, pork and lamb • Exchanging low-fat dairy products for full-fat ones • Eliminating oils Medications • Bile acid-sequestering resins • Ezetinibe • Fibrates • Nicotinic acid
Genetics Dominate trait meaning that even if only one parent has the trait then the children will have the trait also. If both parents have the trait then the symptoms of the disease are twice as severe. It is caused by a defect on chromosome 19. This defect makes the body unable to remove low density cholesterol from the blood, resulting in high cholesterol buildup.
