Assignment #1 Name Tag Activity Assignment #2People Hunting Game Materials needed: questions prepared by teacher Receive hand-out with questions When prompted, find one person for each box Try to complete the worksheet Be prepared to share results • Materials needed: marker, piece of blank paper • Fold paper in half • Write first name in the center of one side so that it is visible from a distance • Top left corner: What is your favorite subject? • Top right corner: What is your favorite hobby? • Bottom left corner: Write one word that describes you (adjective)? • Bottom right corner: Your choice-share something about yourself • If time permits, add pictures to your name tag.

Procedures of the Classroom • Enter quickly and quietly • Sharpen at least two pencils • Place agenda on desk opened to the day’s date (to record homework or write a pass quickly) • Read the screen for directions and begin working quietly on the warm-up • Early finishers will read quietly or work on next task • Students will participate in the day’s lesson by being • Respectful (follow directions the first time, respond with please and thank you, etc) • Responsible (prepared with pencils, paper, agenda, homework, etc) • Safe (keep hands and feet to yourself) • Bathroom privileges are EMERGENCY only or when the teacher is not instructing • No passes will be given the first 10 minutes of each class • If given permission, the student must complete a pass in the agenda book, get teacher’s signature, and sign out on the sheet by the door • Teacher permission is required to get out of seat unless you are • Getting a tissue • Getting sick • Collecting materials as instructed by Mrs. Bower • All students participate and give 100% on ALL assignments

  6. CLEAN-UP Who is responsible? YOU are! Of what? Your desk (inside and out) and the floor around you. • Tops of desks should be clean when you enter and when you exit this room • Do NOT leave anything inside the desks unless you are currently in class • Make sure the inside of your desk is empty when you enter and when you exit Report any materials/damages of your area immediately to Mrs. Bower

  7. Daily Materials for ELA Due by Friday, August 26, 2011! See me if you need help getting your supplies! Agenda Organizer Binder (keep your paper in the rings) Notebook paper Pencil pouch with pencils, erasers, etc Composition book (“Learning Log” will be kept in the classroom) Homework (as needed) A CAN do attitude Your Brain *I would appreciate any donations of facial tissues, hand sanitizer, glue sticks, etc. throughout the year!

Daily Assignment Expectations • Make sure your heading is ALL papers including homework. • Attempt all assignments with 100% effort. • THINK and TRY before asking the teacher ~ avoid saying, “I don’t get it.” • Write in complete sentences ~Write in pencil neatly and form your letters properly ~Proper capitalization and end punctuation is REQUIRED at ALL times. • ~Texting is not appropriate unless your ASKED to text remember your audience! • Check and check again your work before turning it into the teacher. • Make sure you have followed directions. • Ask questions as needed. • Take PRIDE in your work! If your proud of it you will be willing to share it with your • teacher and classmates. • “Anything worth doing, is worth doing well the FIRST time! • Failure to follow these basic expectations WILL result in a REDO or may be discarded and you will receive a “0”.

Leaving the Classroom • Get teacher permission • Write a pass in your agenda Include: Where (nurse, BR, office, library, etc) Time Get teacher signature • Sign out on the sign-out sheet located at the back of the room by the door • Sign back in on the sheet when you return *Failure to comply with this procedure will result in a detention or you could lose your privilege to leave the classroom.

  11. Portfolio • Print your First AND your last name on the name line of your portfolio • Identify the period in which you are in my classroom on the front. These portfolios will STAY in the classroom. We will store EVIDENCE of our learning in these. Information kept will be used as a reference for you during tests and other assignments

  12. Student Leaders Each week 3 students from each class will be assigned to be our classroom leaders: What does this mean? Hmmm…have a missed anything?

  13. Student Work Station highlighters stapler This station is located at the front of the room. It is to help you stay organized and complete tasks during the class period. Materials are to be treated with care and returned to their home. You will be asked to use these supplies throughout the year.   17. Transitions My noise maker! When you hear it you are to STOP what you are doing! You will have a certain amount of time to complete tasks!

  18. R.A.C.E WHAT IS R-A-C-E? R-A-C-E is a thinking/reading-based strategy that is applied to written responses. Each letter of R-A-C-E, represents an idea. If you practice each component of R-A-C-E, then you will communicate, effectively.This strategy is used to help children develop better, cohesive written responses by using supportive textual details. Do you want to be the best communicator you can be? R = The student restates the important words from the question. A = The student gives his or her answer to the question. C = The student cites details from the text (your proof) E = The student explainshow the details from the text support or prove his or her answer to the question. *** A score of 1means that you practiced 1 part of R-A-C-E.*** A score of 2 means that you practiced 2 parts of R-A-C-E. *** A score of 3 means that you practiced 3 parts of R-A-C-E. *** A score of 4 means that you practiced all 4 parts of R-A-C-E.
