Games Design Creative Suite • Proposal • The games design team would like a dedicated area for creating new game designs and prototyping them. • What does the Design Team need? • An area for research, experimentation and prototyping. • Why do we need it? • To ensure that the design team has a core research and reference library. • To give the design team space in which to experiment with existing game mechanics. • To give the design team the space in which to prototype new game mechanics and features.
Games Design Creative Suite • How will we use it? • In the planning stages research can be performed, allowing designers to reference the materials. • In the development stages, the development teams can make use of the reference materials. • What are the advantages? • Ensures that there is a library of research material for the design team to draw inspiration from. • Ensures that all designers have access to the same core research materials. • Presents the opportunity for the design team to have a consistent frame of reference.
Games Design Creative Suite • Who will benefit? • Design team – Common pool knowledge opportunity leading to better communication and increased creativity. • Art Team – Designers can reference specific visual themes and styles in their concepts. • Programming team – Designers can reference specific mechanics and systems in their concepts. • Audio Team – Designers can reference audio genres and sound effects in their concepts. • Producers – Designers can reference multiple elements from different games in their concepts.
Games Design Creative Suite • Brief: • The design team needs an area in which they can research existing game mechanics and features. In addition to this, the area should be able to provide inspiration from other forms of media. • This area also needs to serve as a useful space in which to create and prototype new games. Collectively, the area and its resources are the Creative Suite. • Requirements: • The creative area must provide storage for all of the reference materials. • The creative area must provide all of the tools that the design team members will need. • The creative area must provide a large flat workspace suitable for table top gaming.
Games Design Creative Suite • Specifications: • There should be a TV with which to use games consoles. • There should be at least 1 of each of the current generation Consoles. • The area must be decorated to allow for passive inspiration. • There must be a library of Art/Design related books available. • There should be a library of Videogames for the consoles available. • There must be a library of non-digital games available. • There must be a provision of consumable art/design materials. • There must be furniture appropriate to the needs of the designers and the design space.

Games Design Creative Suite • Research Materials: • Books - • We already have the beginnings of a research and reference library, which will continue to grow with our monthly item requests. • Videogames - • Over time we will be able to expand our videogame library from its current size. • Board Games - • Over time we will also be able to expand our Board game library as well.
Games Design Creative Suite • Prototyping Materials: • Consumables - • Lego board games, Giant Foam dice, Game tokens, 6 sided Dice Grid Mats (square and hex), 10 sided Dice, Blank white Dice, Blank White Dice Labels, Chip tokens, etc. • Consumables - • Drawing/writing tools paper.
