Location • Temple bar is an area in central Dublin. The area is bounded by the river Liffey to the north, Dame Street to the south, Westmoreland Street to the east and Fishamble Street to the west.
HISTORY This place takes its name from the Temple family because they had got his house and gardens there in 17th century.
history The first performance of Handel'sMessiah, on 13 April 1742, was located in Fishamble Street in Temple Bar. An annual performance of Handel’s Messiah is held on the same date at the same location
history • The republican revolutionary group, the Society of the United Irishman, was formed in a meeting in a tavern in Eustace Street in 1791. • Many times, temple bar was in danger because loads of property developers wanted to destroy this area for building. But its unfashionability probably saved it. These property developers destroyed much of the city's historic architecture during the 1960s.
Present day • Unlike the areas surrounding it, Temple Bar has preserved its medieval street pattern. It is promoted as "Dublin's cultural quarter" and has a lively nightlife that is popular with tourists. • Tempe bar is the area of the location of many Irish cultural institutions, including the Irish Photography Centre , the Irish Film Institute, among others.
Present day Meetinghouse Square is used for outdoors film screenings in the summer months. Since summer 2004, Meetinghouse Square is also home to the Speaker's Square project and to the Temple Bar Food Market every Saturday.
Present day Every Saturday there is a market called Cow's Lane Market in this place.
