RUBBER DAM: PURPOSE • Define the operating field by ISOLATING one or more teeth from the oral environment • ELIMINATES SALIVA from the operating site • RETRACTS soft tissue • Prevention of CLOSED MOUTH SWALLOW • MINIMIZES PULPAL CONTAMINATION from oral fluids when excavating a deep carious lesion
