Coupled Oscillations M&T: Ch.12 • Examples of Coupled Oscillations! • Using Mathematica for Modeling and Simulation • Introduction to Linear Algebra and diagonalization of matrices • Introduction to Lagrangian Mechanics  in simple form • Introduction to simple harmonic oscillator • Two decoupled oscillators • Two coupled oscillators!! • General Theory of Coupled Oscillations • Practical examples: double pendulum, CO2 • beyond chapter 12: the 6-12 potential and Raman Spectroscopy

  5. Ground rules • The Centra sessions of this course are restricted for personal use only. Other students who like to take the course will in sha’a Allah be given an opportunity in the future, and will have to commit to the course requisites. • The language of the course “will be”  English. [feedback requested] • There are (at least! ) five things I need from you: • look forward and investigate.. [course web-site, skim and scan textbook, browse internet, discuss with friends…etc.] • attend all the lectures, on time, and interact positively on Centra; otherwise I might go crazy!!  • study from the book [M&T] • submit your dues completely [interactions, homework, lessons, Group follow ups] and perfectly. • hand in your final report on time [30th of Rabi-I] • When you send an e-mail to your TA [feel free to put me on cc:] include “coupled oscillations” in the subject heading.

  6. Before we start • This is not going to be a simple journey; so, we need to be prepared with: • Your hands & brains.. pens/ paper.. calculator/ computers • Your soul with motivation • Your hearts with sincere intentions.. [what might ‘sincere’ intentions mean?] I will continuously need your assistance during the Centra Session [Khalid, Turki, ??, ??]
