Holy, Holy, Holy. A passage from the Gospel according to Saint Luke (4:38-41), may his blessings be upon us all. Amen. Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her. So He bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them. When the sun was setting, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying His hands on each one, He healed them. Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, ‘‘You are the Son of God!'' But He rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew He was the Christ. Welcome to Coptic Treasures! Summer Semester
Rules • Do not talk while the servant is talking. Do not interrupt class. • Do not get out of your seat without asking (by raising your hand). • Be respectful to everyone else around you. Consequences First time: warning Second time: sit outside class for 5 minutes Third time: Kicked out of class for the entire time and call parents
Ice Breaker! • Sit next to someone you don’t know very well. • Introduce yourselves to each other and discover something interesting about each other. Take 5 minutes for this. • You will introduce him/her and their interesting fact to the rest of us.
Tasbeha • This semester we’ll start learning tasbeha! • Tasbeha is midnight praises prayed/sung every day after ashaya prayers. • We usually only pray tasbeha on Saturday night. • It’s mainly composed of 4 hooses, the daily/seasonal psali, the Theotokia of the day, and the conclusion. • Most of the praises during tasbeha come from the Bible. • It’s our time to join with the angels in the heavenly praise of God.
Coptic Language • Today you’ll receive a handout with the Coptic letters and their names and sounds. • Learn it for next week. • Whoever can recite the alphabet and knows the letter sounds next week will get a PRIZE!
