The Clamp Loader• The β-subunit needs help from the γ complex toload onto the DNA template– This γ complex acts catalytically in forming thisprocessive αδβ complex– Does not remain associated with the complex duringprocessive replication• Clamp loading is an ATP-dependent process– Energy from ATP changes conformation of the loaderso that δ-subunit binds to one of the β-subunits of the clampThis binding opens the clamp and allows it to encircleDNA
