  2. Identify Areas & Needs • Requests from PS • Database clean-up • Cataloging changes • Specific part of collection • Specific format of material

  3. Recognize Skills In PS Staff • “Vested” interest • Interest in learning a new skill • Previous experience in TS • Resumes of job candidates

  4. Designing The Project • Enlist the support of colleagues & library administration • Select a project appropriate to the interests and skills of the PS librarians • Areas of responsibility • Liaison areas and/or subject area expertise • Personal interests • Establish parameters of the project • Flexibility based on PS workload • Manageable size

  5. TRAINING 1. Prioritize projects 2. Identify cataloging tools needed 3. Develop cataloging procedures for training 4. Divide project into manageable components

  6. (TRAINING) 5. Schedule time for: training (hands-on training) cataloging (the project) coordination between TS & trainee questions, feedback, & modifications 6. Allow for an evolving level of ability to catalog materials of increasing difficulty 7. Document procedures and decisions
