Members and Responsibilies • Emily Ayers-Brown -creating the movie description & description of target focus of the lesson • Matthew Harris –creating the story board • Christina Phyall- creating the wiki design and assessment tool • Jennifer Smith – creating the instructional lesson/unit • CuretarrahWitcher “Kennedi”- creating the movie and the presentation PowerPoint. Communication • We communicated primarily via email and our wiki space. This worked wonderfully for everyone. All group members were accountable and created a wonderful individual product that ultimately led to the creation of the complete product. Tools and Applications Used • Movie Maker, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word

  4. Movie Description The movie starts out with a reporter talking about a 5th grader committing suicide due to bullying. The next 7 slides have images of people being bullied along with statistics about bullying. The next 6 slides show teens who were bullied to death. The next slide shows the word bully and other words associated with bullying with an X through it .The next slide shows a teacher discussing her feelings on bullying. The next slides are 4 interviews with students who have either been bullied or who have been the bully. In between the interviews there are clips of posters that are in the school to promote anti-bullying.

  6. Description of Target Focus of the Lesson PurposeThe lesson plan on bullying will teach third-fifth grade students the skills needed to understand bullying. Target audienceThe target audience who will learn about bullying is third-fifth grade students Theme and curricular objectivesThe information on bullying taught in this lesson will support reading and writing standards from the Georgia Performance Standards and character education.

  7. Description of Target Focus of the Lesson Instructional activities • Watch the video on bullying • Create a KWL chart about bullying • Read a book about bullying. A few examples are: • Talk about what it means to bullied and what to do if you are in that situation • Write a personal narrative about a time you were bullied or a time you were being a bully, or a bullying situation you witnessed Assessments • Groups can role playing situations that involve bullying. They will include a solution to the problem in the role play situation. The groups will create a story board and then make a video of their role play situation on bullying. The video and story board will be like the one used at the beginning of the bullying lesson. The groups will be provided with a rubric that will be used to grade their video project on bullying. • Students can finish filling out the L part of the KWL chart • Students will be graded on their personal narrative

  8. Lesson Plan Overview • The lesson plan on bullying will teach third-fifth grade students the skills needed to understand bullying. The information on bullying taught in this lesson will support reading and writing standards from the Georgia Performance Standards and character education. There will be a culminating activity at the end of the lesson that will be used as an assessment to evaluate the students’ understanding of bullying. The culminating activity (assessment) will involve groups role playing situations that involve bullying. They will include a solution to the problem in the role play situation. The groups will create a story board and then make a video of their role play situation on bullying. The video and story board will be like the one used at the beginning of the bullying lesson. The groups will be provided with a rubric that will be used to grade their video project on bullying.

Objectives for Lesson Plan After completing the lesson on bullying, students will • Understand what bullying is • Know what a bully is and what they do • Learn what they can do to protect themselves from a bully • Understand working cooperatively in groups • Demonstrate their knowledge of bullying • Create their own video with information learned about bullying

Strengths • We were all ready to participate, and willing to give advice on areas we need insight on. • We all volunteered for sections and worked hard on our part. • Everyone took ownership of their assigned tasks. • We were all ready to participateand willing to give advice on areas we needed insight on.

  13. Challenges • Getting all the files to fit together (video/audio/images…)(Kennedi) • Interpreting the directions correctly (Jennifer) • Time (Matt) • Communicating constructive criticism (Christina) • Confusion over due dates (Emily)

  14. 20/20 • Windows movie maker wasn’t very compatible with many things so next time I’ll search for other movie makers. • The instructional activity was not hard to create, it just took lots of time like all instructional lessons do. • Coordinating formats before beginning project • Communicate a clear understanding of the standards before creating the assessment tool • Maybe we should have a Wimbasession next time to clear up the confusion
