7. Lexington/Concord–Apr 18, 1775 • Arsenal in Concord • William Dawes and Paul Revere to alert the militia in the countryside. • Blood at Lexington – 8 dead • Brits intercepted on way to Concord • The Brits lost 73

8. Bunker Hill • Battle of Bunker Hill – June, 1775 • Boston – Colonial fighters, low on ammo, took a high position on Breed’s Hill. British General Gage attacked and dislodged the colonials, killing 140. However British casualties were high 226 dead, 1000+ wounded

9. 2nd Continental Congress: May 10, 1775 • Independence Hall – Philadelphia • John Hancock - President • Delegates from 12 colonies - No Georgia • What they did: • Began raising a colonial army and appointed George Washington commander • Olive Branch Petition • King George III declared the colonists to be ‘in open and avowed rebellion” – Prohibitory Act
