  1. Revelation 6-9

  2. Themes • War! • God vs. Satan! • The war is still going on! • We are at war! • I heard a scholar once say, “I don’t care about the first four seals!”

  3. Seal #1 • Revelation 6:1-2 Creation to ministry of Enoch 4000 B.C. to 3000 B.C. White horse: Purity, Victory Bow = Weapon of war Elder Bruce R. McConkie taught that the person was Enoch (DNTC 3:477-78).

  4. “Truly, never was there a ministry such as Enoch’s, and never a conqueror and general who was his equal! How appropriate that he should ride the white horse of victory in John’s apocalyptic vision!” (McConkie, DNTC, 3:476-78).

  5. Seal #2 • Revelation 6:3-4 War rageth with Satan, including Noah’s day. 3000 B.C. to 2000 B.C. Red horse: Blood, Devil Great sword

  6. Seal #3 • Revelation 6:5-6 Famine stalks the land Abraham’s time, Joseph in Egypt, Moses in the wilderness 2000 B.C. to 1000 B.C. Black horse: Death Pair of balances: Scarcity of food, to be doled out with exactness. Penny: It is known that a denarius was the typical wage for a days work in those times. These were famine prices.

  7. Seal #4 • Revelation 6:7-8 Death, Hell, Famine prevail Saul’s time, and time of the kings in united and divided Israel. Babylon 1000 B.C. to coming of the Lord Pale horse: Name who sat upon him was death and hell.

  8. Seal #5 • Revelation 6:9-10 Christian martyrs slain Christ’s birth to 1000 A.D. “Among the ancient saints martyrdom was an ever present possibility, one which completely occupied their thoughts and feelings. They knew that by forsaking all to follow Christ, they might, if fate so decreed, be called to lay down their lives for Him who had laid down his life for them. In an almost death-inviting sense, the meridian of time was the dispensation of the martyrdom” (McConkie, DNTC, 3:482-83).

  9. Seal #6 • Revelation 6:12-17 Now! Gospel restored! Signs of the times! Natural disasters! 1000 A.D. to 2000 A.D.

  10. Seal #7 • Revelation 7:1 Four angels Four corners Four winds Power to save life or destroy!

  11. It may be the four principle winds familiar to the Jews: • The wind from the west was moist • The wind from the south was hot • The wind from the north was cold • The wind from the east was hot and dry • Revelation 7:3 “Sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads” “144,000” High Priest “Calling and Election made sure”

  12. It was a common practice in John’s day for devotees of the various heathen gods to mark their foreheads with the name or symbol of their God. • As to the actual meaning of the sealing itself, Joseph Smith said, “Four destroying angels holding power over the four quarters of the earth until the servants of God are sealed on their foreheads, meaning the everlasting covenant, thereby making their calling and election made sure….

  13. “…When a seal is placed upon a father and a mother, it secures their posterity, so that they cannot be lost, but will be saved by virtue of the covenant of their father and mother” (Teachings, 321).

  14. Revelation 7:9 “Clothed with white robes, and palms (victory) in their hands” “Celestial” • Revelation 7:14 Calling and Election made sure! • Revelation 7:15 “Serve him day and night in his temple” Temples open 24 hours a day! No night or day in the Celestial Kingdom?

  15. Revelation 8, 9 and 11 = 7th seal Second Coming! Nasty! Period of destruction! Seems natural.

  16. Revelation 8:1 “Silence in heaven about the space of half an hour” (D&C 88:95). We don’t know if its thirty minutes to us or 21 years in the Lord’s time. At this time the resurrection will take place for those who are Celestial. Some have said, this is how you know that there will be no women in heaven! (you’re right, it’s not funny)

  17. 7 angels and 7 trumpets Protection through destruction? • Revelation 8:10 The wormwood associated with the star that fell from heaven is a symbol of the bitterness and awfulness which comes to all who follow the devil. Wormwood is a plant with an extremely bitter taste. To use it for food or drink was to eat that which brought about death. In the case of Satan, all who follow his evil ways perish in spiritual death. How do you know if you’ve been forgiven? When the Holy Ghost is operating again in your life!

  18. Revelation 9 John attempts to describe a war fought with weapons, it was hard for him because it was foreign to him. • Revelation 9:5 “Torment of the scorpion” Usually not fatal, but painful! • Revelation 9:16 J.S.T. says 200 million!

  19. Rev. 9:17-19 Indicates that one third of the worlds population will be wiped out. “Battle of Armageddon.” Only 2 days of glory on your mission: 1. The day you leave! 2. The day you come back! The rest is a Siberian winter!
