Why is there a new assessment? The new assessment will focus on increasing postsecondary readiness of graduating high school students and help to ensure that Texas students are competitive with other students both nationally and internationally. 8
STAAR vs. TAKS - More rigorous than TAKS with greater emphasis on alignment to college and career readiness - Change from grade-based to course-based. - 4 hour time limit. - 2 day testing for English I, II & III. 8

The EOC will be calculated as 15% of the final grade for each course. In order to minimize the impact of the EOC on a students’ final grade in a course, the district will use the following grade based on the level of student performance for each EOC: Level I: 68 Level II: 90 Level III: 100 38

Boyd ISD will provide accelerated instruction to each student who fails to perform satisfactorily on the assessment. If a student retakes an EOC assessment, the District will include the retake score as 15% of the final course grade only if the retake score allows a student to gain credit for the course. After a student earns credit for the course, subsequent retakes will not be included in the calculation of the final course grade.
STAAR/TAKS tutorials presently occurring: Monday: am/pm- Math, Science, SS Tuesday: am/pm- Math, Science, English Wednesday: am/pm- Math, English, SS Thursday: am/pm- Science, English, SS Before school: 7:30-7:55 am After school: 3:35-4:00 pm
Graduation Plans & STAAR Testing: • For graduation purposes students are required to achieve a cumulative score that is at least equal to the product of the number of STAAR EOC assessments required in a content area and the scale score that indicates Level II: Satisfactory Academic Performance. • A student’s cumulative score is determined using the student’s highest score on each STAAR EOC assessment that student is required to take for graduation purposes.
Minimum Plan: 22 credits • EOC Required tests- • English I, II, III Reading & Writing • Algebra I • Geometry • Biology • US History • Either World History or World Geography • Student must take STAAR EOC assessments only for courses in which they are enrolled in and an EOC is offered. Only courses specifically listed on MHSP are required to count towards cumulative score.
Recommended Plan: 26 credits • EOC Required tests- • English I, II, III Reading & Writing • Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II • Biology, Chemistry, Physics • World Geography, World History, US History • Student must take all 15 STAAR EOC assessments • In addition to cumulative score requirements, student must meet or exceed the Level II: Satisfactory Academic Performance standards for the STAAR English III Reading, Writing, & Algebra II assessments.
Distinguished Plan: 26 credits • EOC Required tests- • English I, II, III Reading & Writing • Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II • Biology, Chemistry, Physics • World Geography, World History, US History • Student must take all 15 STAAR EOC assessments • In addition to cumulative score requirements, student must meet or exceed the Level III: Advanced Academic Performance standards for STAAR Eng. III Reading, Writing, & Algebra II assessments.
