John’s Hughes Information • John Hughes was born on February 18th, 1950 in Lansing Michigan. • He moved to Chicago, Illinois with his family at the age of 13. • He graduated from Glenbrook North High School in 1968. Went on to attend Arizona State, but later on dropped out. • He was married to Nancy Ludwig ,who was Hughes' high-school sweetheart. • Hughes died of a heart attack on August 6, 2009. • The pilot episode of the NBC comedy Community broadcasted September 17, 2009 was dedicated to Hughes • The episode included references to The Breakfast Club and it ended with the cover of “Don’t you forget about Me”.
Beginning of career • His first big break happen when he began working for a magazine company called “National Lampoon”. • In the magazine he wrote a piece called “Vacation 58” based on his experience with family vacations. This inspired the film “ National Lampoon Family Vacation”. • He became an advertising copywriter, in which he made some ads for 7-UP. • He wrote short stories, magazine articles, published novels, and he also wrote jokes for stand-up comedians like Rodney Dangerfield. • In 1985 he entered a multiple-picture contract with Paramount. • In 1988 Hughes Entertainment became part of Universal.

During the 1980s, he created screenplays faster than Hollywood could make them into movies. • John Hughes is known for directing producing, and writing his films. • He was influenced by Stanley Kubrick, Frank Capra, and Steven Spielberg directing styles.
