  3. The Workshop: • Ucayali Region, Peru • Shipibo-Conibo indigenous groups • 6-day workshop • Presentations by both “Eagles” and “Condors” • Visits to IIAP, villages, aquaculture projects, Universidad Intercultural de la Amazonía

  5. The Success: • Establishing links and relationships between indigenous leaders in the South and the North • “I believe we accomplished what we set out to do—building relationships. Without building relationships before we work together we can make mistakes”

  6. Indigenous Aquaculture Network: • Peru workshop stimulated the revitalization of the Indigenous Aquaculture Network — to facilitate communications among North American indigenous groups interested in aquaculture • Specifically, “Eagles” returning from Peru worked to revive and strengthen the IAN: • IAN prospectus presented to Heifer International • IAN website now sponsored by IEN • Heifer and IEN continue to seek funding for IAN

  7. “The IAN will work with Indigenous communities to enhance traditional aquatic resources through education, empowerment and capacity building. The means for doing this are through North-South cultural exchanges, information dissemination and small village based seed projects. The IAN will have as its mission statement:

  8. “Strengthening food security, health and community development in a way that reflects Indigenous standards and sovereignty as related to the Water World and its interlinked natural resources through education, empowerment and capacity building by Indigenous Peoples.”
