  3. What did we learn? Environmental Policy is not complicated. Its really about Common sense!

  4. So why do we need GEP? • Environmental problems travel! • Global problems affect many countries • Most environmental problems are long-term • Different types of stakeholders are involved

  5. What does GEP look like? Key GEP tool: as starting points MEA Multilateral Environmental Agreements

  6. What does GEP look like? There are more than 250 MEAs, but remember the “big three”: Climate Change Biodiversity Desertification

  7. What did we learn? Local to Global links are important

  8. What did we learn? All environmental problems start with our everyday lifestyles, and therefore, global policies need to eventually target individual citizens at the local/micro level Citizens

  9. What did we learn? Focus on lifestyles choices and decisions!

  10. What did we learn? Our real skills in policy-making for the environment will lie in linking global and local issues, and in bringing all stakeholders together

  12. What did we learn? Don’t forget businesses – environmental problems can become business opportunities!

  16. The Future for GEP … Watch out for the “SDGs” which will replace the MDGs from 2015 to 2925 SDGs = Sustainable Development Goals MDGs = Millennium Development Goals Environmental policies at the global level will be significantly influenced by the SDGs.
