  1. CAViDS Consortium AMESim Heat Generation Model A CAViDS Consortium Project Advisory Board Report January 25, 2011

  2. CAViDS Consortium Project Objective • Develop an AMESim heat generation model of a gearbox system which compares favorably with experimental results.

  3. CAViDS Consortium Approach • Phase 1: Obtain software and familiarize. • Phase 2: M odel relevant systems: • FZG test stand at Caterpillar • Eaton heavy transmission • Eaton medium transmission

  4. CAViDS Consortium Process to Date • Developed spreadsheet with Changenet calculations • Loaded version 9 • Got acquainted with system with mechanical spring-mass systems • Built and exercised simple heat model • Loaded version 10 • Added air convection internal calculations • AMESim support added oil sump • Identified heat transfer student to support

  9. CAViDS Consortium AMESim UtilityNext Steps

  10. CAViDS Consortium AMESim UtilityNext Steps

  11. CAViDS Consortium Next Month • Tune heat transfer coefficient calculations • Extend model to include hydraulic sump • Extend model to include gears • Include FZG parameters • Obtain transmission parameters

  12. CAViDS Consortium Notes • Software easy to use • LMS has great support • Capabilities look like they will meet our needs
