On the choice of DB klystron Grudiev 30/06/09
Some numbers for Klystrons • ILC L-band klystron: • 10 MW, 500 kCHF for K + the same for M + 150 kCHF AS = ~1.2 MCHF • 50 kCHF/MW • Klystron from Hans CLIC0 estimate: • 33 MW, 2.7 MCHF for a module K+M+AS, AS ~ 200 kCHF • ~ 1.3 MCHF for K => ~40 kCHF/MW • => 0.8 of ILC L-band relative price/MW
Cost per MW • Using the above model, here’s the klystron cost per MW (peak) • Blue: present state of the art • Red: assuming a major investment into the development of a dedicated 30 MW tube ILC L-band tube Hans 33 MW tube 4th CLIC Advisory Committee (CLIC-ACE)
Case 18 = 2x3x3 • Same DB energy, shorter sector => higher PETS shunt impedance • Same current in DB linac (IDBL) as now but lower DB current: • IDB = 18 x IDBL = ~75 A • Same DB current IDB =100 A, same DB charge but higher DB linac current ~5.2 A • Lower DB energy by ¾ which is ~1.7 GeV, same PETS impedance • Practically it is very close the last ¾ of the present sector • Something in between ?
