  2. Match Details • 6-minute round • Toss-up questions • Bonus questions • 2 Team Challenge Questions • At least 2 min break • 6-minute round • Toss-up questions • Bonus questions

  3. Question types • Toss-up (TU) questions • Anyone may buzz in • No collaboration • MUST be recognized by Moderator…otherwise BLURT • May buzz in AFTER reading of question subject • Bonus questions • Awarded to winning team of TU question • Team collaboration • Only Captain may answer • Team Challenge Questions (TCQs) • Written • Captain must turn in team’s answer

  4. Question Timing • To answer TU questions…5 seconds • Allow natural pause of 3 seconds when answering • To answer Bonus questions…20 seconds • 5 second signal given • To answer TCQs…at least 2 minutes • 45 seconds signal given • 15 seconds signal given

  7. Answer phrasing • First answer is the ONLY one that counts • May answer with the letter (“W”,“X”,”Y”,”Z”) • May answer with the scientific answer • May answer with both the letter and the scientific answer

  8. If Moderator gives answer • TU question asked and answer incorrectly by one team • Moderator doesn’t give other team chance to answer • Moderator skips to the next TU question and presents it to the second team ONLY

  10. Challenges • Two types: • Scientific answers • Enforcement of Competition Rules • Only team members may challenge • Must be made before Moderator begins next question • Competition “pauses” during challenges • Decisions from Appeals room are FINAL!

  11. Round-Robin NO TIE-BREAKERS 2 pts win 1 pt tie 0 pts loss Place in Round-Robin determines seed for Double Elimination Double Elimination A series of 5 toss-up questions are used to break the tie. Tie-breakers

  12. Misc. rules • Alternates sub in ONLY at break • Coach and alternate introduction at the beginning of match • NO audience participation • NO notes at the beginning of match • NO photography except by competition hosts
