  1. LEARNING AREA LEARNING OUTCOMES Computer Parts & Components - Overview of the Computer System Identify main components in the computer system

  2. Main components in the computer system: • Monitor • Keyboard • Speaker • Mouse • System unit • Printer

  3. Cont’d.. • Computer system defined as combination of component designed to process data & store files. • Computer system requires hardware, software & a user to fully function.

  4. Computer system consists of four major hardware components: • Input devices • Processor • Output devices • Storage devices

  5. LEARNING OUTCOMES • Explain briefly the data processing cycle of a computer system

  6. Data processing cycle of a computer system • Input • Process • Output • Storage

  7. Cont’d.. • A computer system consists of input devices, processor, output devices and storage devices. •  Data processing cycle of a computer system:

  8. INPUT • Input is any data or instructions that we enter into the computer system for processing. • There are some common ways of feeding input data into the system, which are : -Typing on a keyboard -Pointing with a mouse

  9. PROCESS • In computing, a process is an instance of a computer program that is being executed. It contains the program code and its current activity. Depending on the operating system (OS), a process may be made up of multiple threads of execution that execute instructions concurrently. • A computer program is a passive collection of instructions, a process is the actual execution of those instructions.

  10. STORAGE • Storage is a location which data, instruction & information a held for future use • Every computer uses storage to hold system software & application software • A storage medium also called secondary storage. Example floppy disk, hard disk & USB flash drive.

  11. OUTPUT • Output is data that has been processed into a useful form called information. • There are 4 types of output, which are text, graphic, audio & video.
