One Direction - Anglo-Irish boy band , founded in London in 2010, which is composed of five young men : Harry Styles , Louis Tomlinson , Niall Horan , ZainMalik and Liam Payne . They signed a recording contract with Simon Cowell called Syco Records, after his appearances on the show The X Factor. In North America, they signed a contract with Columbia Records.

In 2008, 14-year-old Liam auditioned fifth season of the show British "X-Factor". His parents divorced when he was 2 years old, and he took the surname of his stepfather Mark Tomlinson. He has five younger sisters from his father (GA) and maternal (Charlotte, Felicite, twins Daisy and Phoebe). Louis attended acting school in Barnsley. He had a small role in the movie «If I Had You». In 2010, Niall Horan , ZainMalik , Liam Payne , Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson came in the seventh season of The X Factor alone , pretending to hit the solo category. After offering a guest judge Nicole Scherzinger , they were combined into a group so were classified as "Group ". Subsequently, the group worked together for two weeks to get to know each other better and to practice . Harry Stiles decided to call the band One Direction. One Direction finished third , behind only Rebecca Ferguson, the runner-up and winner Matt Cardle season . Record their debut album began in January 2011, as soon as the band flew to Los Angeles to work with producer RedOne.
In May 2012, One Direction began recording a new studio album Take Me Home in Stockholm. In 2012 , One Direction helped fundraising cookbook Dish for a Wish. The proceeds from the sale of the book were sent to benefit children's charity «Sunshine», which fulfills the wishes of sick children across the UK. May 9, 2012 , One Direction visited sick children in charitable purposes. And in April 2012 , together with Charitybuzz, to help raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity. VIP- tickets to meet the band in person in North America during the Up All Night tour, were sold , and the proceeds went to charity for children. In April 2012 , the band members also helped California Earthquake Authority (CEA) through auctions , which lot was meeting with a group .
