  1. How are pomace olive oil and olive oil different? There is more to the olive oil family than the famous extra virgin olive oil. Though olive oils are graded in a certain manner, and extra virgin olive oil comes at the top of the list, oils like ordinary extra light olive oil and pomace oil too make the list. Both these oils make for the best cholesterol free cooking oil for health, especially pomace olive oil. The Difference: When you go to a retail store to buy oil, you would typically see the bottles of extra virgin olive oil more readily available, which is great! However, ruling out other kinds of olive oil like pomace oil or olive oil will be wrong! We know and understand that it can be confusing at times, but that is precisely here. In order to make a choice between picking one oil over the other, it is important to be aware of all the facts. So, in order to keep you better informed, here is a gist of what both the extra light olive oil and pomace oil has to offer in terms of health as well as skin benefits for a person using them. Read on to find out!

  2. (Refined) Olive Oil Refined olive oil, also called virgin olive oil, is extracted with the help of a centrifuge. Post the extraction method, the oil is refined with the help of a high heat process. More often than not, this process involves the injecting of steam under a vacuum. Post this, the oil is passed through earthen clay, that is light in colour, in order to remove the colour of the oil itself. The oil that is thus produced has a mild and light flavour to it and has a very light yellow colour too. This is the oil that you can find on retail shelves with a label of “Light Tasting” or “Light Olive oil” on it. So remember that the next time you decide to go splurge on olive oil when shopping! Pure Olive Oil Ok this might be confusing but “pure olive oil” is different from “refined olive oil”. Olive oil or pure olive oil as it is known is essentially a blend of the refined olive oil that we talked about earlier and extra virgin olive oil. The rations of the mixing can range from 70%-85% for refined olive oil and 15%-30% extra virgin olive oil. It is essentially the manufacturer of the oil who determines the kind of ratios both of them need to be mixed in. As a result, the end product of pure olive oil has a different price range across different markets. The final product thus obtained has a milder flavour as well as lighter colour than that of extra virgin or virgin olive oil but still happens to be slightly darker in colour and has more flavour than refined olive oil. Olive Pomace Oil The main reason as to why olive pomace oil is given the name is because it is extracted from the pomace of the olive. Now a pomace happens to be the pulp that is left behind post the extraction process of the extra virgin and virgin olive oils. You might think that the pulp would not have any oil left in it, but you would be wrong to assume that. It was found that post all the extraction process, the pulp left behind still consists of around 8% olive oil in it. Now the question is what can be done with it. It's either a toss or use kind of dilemma. Enter the solvent extraction method. A solvent called hexane is added to the pomace of the olives to help with the extraction process. Ok, don’t be alarmed, you probably already have a ton of seed oils in your pantry which use the same extraction process, you just might have been aware of it. These oils include canola and soybean just to name a few.

  3. Post the extraction of the oil, the solvent is removed by heating the oil and helping the solvent evaporate. This is the refining process that pomace oil is subjected to to bring to the shelves pomace refined oil. The Bottom Line: Though at first glance it might not seem that way, there are quite a few differences and certain similarities between pomace oil as well as olive oil that need to be recognized without a doubt. This in turn can truly make your decisions easier as to which you should pick when you are going out shopping. We sure hope that you have been able to understand how both the oils stand in comparison to each other this time around! The best olive oil in India definitely includes these two without a doubt.
