Changes in regulation In 2014-2016 there were no major changes in the regulation related to radon. New sanitary rules: • “Hygienic requirements for the placement, arrangement, equipment and operation of radon laboratories, radon therapy departments” (SP 2.6.1.3247-15) • Draft methodical recommendations: • “Organization and conducting of radiation survey for justification of radon mitigation actions in dwellings and public buildings”(2019) • “Development of regional programs to reduce public exposure levels in the regions of the Russian Federation due to natural sources of ionizing radiation”(2018)
Changes in regulation • Draft methodical recommendations: • “Organization and conducting of radiation monitoring in radon laboratories and radon therapy departments (radon clinics)”(2017-2018) Projects of methodical recommendations: • “Risk assessment for the population from residential exposure to radon and its progeny”(2018-2019)

Corrective Measures Radon mitigation actions in St.Petersburg Regional funding: • 1 school • 1 kindergarten • 1 musical school • 1 house for arts and crafts for children • 1 public building (customs, Leningrad region) Private funding: • 1 small hotel owned by a confectionary factory
Summary • Federal funds are cut • Exchange of information on radon surveys and radon mitigation actions is poor • Public awareness of radon problem is poor • No official ultimate and accessible source of information on radon • Regional funds are available • Federal databank contains data on all routine measurements in the country • Guidelines on radon surveys and remediation actions are in progress • Scientific books, journals, annual reports are issued There is a possibility to cover all these topics in a National Action Plan or National Radon Strategy
