Archimedes Foundation Supporting the Archimedes Project The Archimedes Project is researching and developing emancipating technologies that benefit people with diminished capacity due to disabilities or aging.
Archimedes Reorganization Archimedes Hawaii – Opening September 1, 2003 • Archimedes Hawaii is being established at the the ManoaCampus of the University of Hawaii • Archimedes Hawaii will be the central coordinator for Archimedes research activities Archimedes Stanford • Activities at Archimedes Stanford will be scaled back but continue at CSLI in a collaborating role with Archimedes Hawaii
Collaborating with Industry Visiting Research Associates (VRAs) • Engineers and Programmers from Industry spend a period of six months to two years working at Archimedes. • Learn about ITAS and IMNIP • Develop accessibility solutions and new User Interfaces for parent company • May be based at Archimedes Hawaii or Archimedes Stanford
Summer 2004 Access Factory • Access Factory 2002, held at Stanford, focused on NIP and ITAS was very successful – two patents • Twenty participants from 9 countries • Access Factory 2004 will be held in Hawaii and will focus on IDEAL Classroom technology and learning materials • People interested in participating should contact Neil Scott for details ngscott@hawaii.com

Serendipity • Throughout history, many of the important inventions and advances have been the result of remarkable serendipity.
Solutions • We can find workable solutions by looking at what has already been done in the disability field • To find great solutions we must look further a-field.
