  3. Sepoy Mutiny (1857) • Sepoy = Indian soldiers fighting for British • “A delicate and dangerous machine which a little mismanagement may easily turn against us.” • 1857 New British cartridges (bullets) greased with pig/cow fat • Hindus: cow is sacred • Muslims: pork forbidden • Sepoysrevolt!
