ITEMS TO CHECK ON A Shutdown pump • The shaft should not be turning, unless it has turning gear and lube oil is supplied to shaft support components. • The shaft should not be turning backward as this may be an indication that the discharge check valve did not reset. • The pump should be quiet. • There will be little or no vibration or differential pressure. • If applicable, the mini-flow recirc valve will be open. • Local electrical lineups should be per the system operating procedures. • The pump or motor will not be hot to the touch. • Local breakers will be open, and motor current will be zero.
