Let’s Review • Mathematical Properties/classify numbers • Multi-Step Equations • Functions, Slope • Absolute Value • Proportions/Percent of increase/decrease • Inequalities : When to switch sign? • Graphing Standard/Slope-Intercept Form • Sequences, Arithmetic, Geometric • Growth and Decay • Pythagorean Theorem, Radicals • B.A.G.
“I can…” • …classify a polynomial based upon the number of terms, • …determine its degree • …add and subtract polynomial expressions • M(F&A)-10-3
Common Polynomial Functions • Notice: Missing Terms…it’s ok
What it means • Recall that a monomial is a real number, variable or a product of numbers and variables • The Degree of a monomial is the sum of the exponents of its variables
Polynomial • A Polynomial is a monomial or a sum of monomials • The standard formof a polynomial means that the degrees of its monomial terms decrease from left to right • The degree of a polynomial in one variable is the same as the degree of the monomial with the greatest exponent
Add polynomials • To add polynomial expressions you add the coefficients of LIKE TERMS
Subtract Polynomials • To subtract polynomial expressions you subtract the coefficients of LIKE TERMS
Example A nutritionist studied the U.S. consumption of carrots, celery, and broccoli over a 6-year period. The nutritionist modeled the results in millions of pounds with the following polynomials
Example What polynomial models the total number of pounds, in millions, of carrots, celery, and broccoli over the six year period (Graph is just to Show you what A polynomial Function looks Like)
Find the missing side • Parallelogram… • Perimeter is 58x
