Think about those sample questions? • What skills are the sample questions testing? • Literacy skills? • Other skills? • Where are children learning those skills? • Let’s look at some sample standards that include technology…
Technology Skills “Blended” into Standards • To be ready for college, workforce, and life in a technological society, students need the ability to • Gather, comprehend, evaluate, synthesize, and report on information and ideas. • Conduct original research in order to answer questions or solve problems. • Analyze and create a high volume and extensive range of print and nonprint texts in media forms old and new. Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects, Key Design Considerations, p. 4

What does this mean for you? • All teachers – including content areas will be expected to teach literacy of data drive and argumentative texts in their lessons. • Students will need to have practice using technology to create projects and products like those that are on the exam. • Students will need to be able to evaluate online sources and choose appropriate technology tools to solve problems.
Strategies for Implementing Literacy and Technology in Your Teaching • Online Books – modeling appropriate reading strategies with on line media. • Books on technology topics. • Online Journals and reports that are relevant to the content you are teaching. • For example: http://www.go4thesummit.com/
