However, for further examples and for your practice, refer to the web page. Lot of materials are available on the web page. Spend at least 3 to six hours on your own every week on the Topics that we cover, you can certainly improve and also receive good grade.
Course Objectives • The college course today demands not only that students write clearly and accurately but also that they write effectively about what they have read. In order to write effectively, you need to write clearly and express exactly in English. This course will help you to write clearly. • Every student who plans to work in business and industry must master the art of technical writing. This course will present you some guidelines to improve your skills in Technical Writing. • The English of an experimental research report is highly conventionalized, a fact that represents a great advantage for non-native speakers as well as for their language instructors. The conventions are fairly consistent across a wide variety of scientific disciplines. This course will help students to see what those choices are and to select the most appropriate – that is, most conventional option.
Text Book: The Writer’s Response [A reading based approach to writing] Fourth Edition By Stephen McDonald and William Salomone Optional Text:1. Technical Writing: A practical approach, 6th Ed. By William sanborn Pfeiffer 2. Professional and Technical Writing Strategies, By Judith VanAlstyne 6th Ed. 3. MLA HandBook for writers of Research papers (6th Ed) Grading: The final grade will be composed of the following weights. If you receive a failing grade in the Mid-term Exam, No make-up Mid-term Exam will be given to those who fail. You must receive at least 70% in order to pass the course.
Exams:Quizzes and exams will cover lectures, textbook materials and homeworks. There may be other relevant materials related to the topics will be also covered in addition to the textbook materials. Documented crisis or one week's prior notice required for consideration of exam or Quizzes make-up. Homeworks: Few homeworks will be assigned throughout the term. Homeworks are due at the start of class on the due date. Sorry, no late homeworks will ordinarily be accepted. One day and upto one week late assignments are penalized 20% from the total score. After one week, the percent increases by 10% for every week. Quizzes:Short quizzes will be given at any time covering the lecture and the reading materials. This is to motivate you to keep up on the reading. This will be announced at least one week prior to the date in the class. If you are absent from the class, it is your duty to find out from other classmates.
Turn in Policy: Turn in all work to the instructor, preferably before class begins. Make sure that the work is done on your own without discussing with other classmates. Refer to the Academic Honesty below. Absence and Participation Policy:Class attendance and effective, constructive participation is important to your performance in the course and makes up a portion of the grade. If you cannot make it to class on the date something is due, please make arrangements to have someone else bring your assignment to me before or at the start of class. Also note the exam absence policy mentioned earlier. Don't wait for the last day to cover up all the materials. It will be too hard. Academic Honesty:Follow the University policy on academic honesty. The instructor's academic honesty policy is very strict; instances of academic dishonesty will be penalized, ordinarily by at least failure on the assignment and likely failure in the course (in addition to any University penalties). Unless otherwise stated, all work is to be individual work. Violations of the individual work policy will be regarded as instances of academic dishonesty. Beware of copying materials from the Internet. (Don't forget to cite the material)
