History of Knoll AG • Dr. Albert Knoll and Hans Knoll founded Knoll AG in 1886 • Develops a cost effective way of producing codeine from morphine • In 1893, starts producing theobromine from cocoa bean shells • In 1895, developed Tanalbin, an antidiiarrhoeal; further made into Tannacomp, product still sold
History Continued • 1906- Launches Digipuratum • 1935- Minden facilities for production site of ephedrine • 1963- Launches world’s first calcium channel blocker, Isoptin • 1964- BASF AG acquires 15% ownership • 1971- Launches Iruxol, promotes wound healing • 1985- Knoll AG becomes fully owned by BASF

Appetite suppresser • Active Ingredient: Sibutramine • Increases the activity of certain chemicals, norepinephrine and serotonin, in the brain
Synthroid • Treats Thyroid disease • Active Ingredient: levothyroxine sodium • Replaces hormone that is usually made by normal thyroid glands
