REASONABLE FAITH “Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in the book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name” (John 20:30-31)

  2. The Faith • “Faith is believing what you know ain’t so.” • No. Faith must be reasonable. Not always provable, but within reason. • Evidence is cumulative. Does not stand on one point, though one may be more important, to us. • Human reason is Divinely given. • Isa. 1:18; Rom. 10:17; Heb. 11:1-6

  3. But… • Human reason can’t “prove” the religion to be valid. Only shows it more reasonable than unbelief. • At Thessalonica – Acts 17:2 • At Ephesus – Acts 18:19 • At Corinth – Acts 18:4 • Before Felix – Acts 24:25 • Phil. 1:17 – Set for the defense of the Gospel.

  4. Philosophical Arguments • Cosmological – Cosmos is an effect produced by a cause. • Teleological - Design in the universe. • Romans 1:20; Psa. 19:1-6 • We begin with God. Atheist begins with ? • From nothing, comes nothing. Something is, and it is organized. Law of entropy demands things become less organized unless energy infused.

  5. Logic in Nature • Systems are interdependent – from plants and animals to humans. Did this just happen. • Termites, sheep.

  6. Other Arguments • The “general” argument – universal belief in God. Every culture. Why? • The Moral argument – Our conscience. Is it useful? Only if there is a God to judge. • The Esthetical argument – We admire beauty in the world. What use is it? • Man is an interesting creature. • Design or accident?
