Ebooks: using data to assess and respond The NU Libraries use data from web analytics, problem report forms, and usability research to improve discovery and use of ebooks. This is a concerted effort by staff responsible for both front-end and back-end systems, who work together as a team on Primo development. The team is made up of representatives from public services, technical services, and systems departments.
Improving the ebook experience: • Creating “local collections” from Alma portfolios facilitates contributing local or customized information to the discovery display, such as license terms, special alerts and downtime notices.
Improving the ebook experience: linking • Links in 856 40/41 are being suppressed from the detailed display to de-clutter the screen and avoid duplication with resolver/portfolio links. (Shown prior to removing links)
Improving the ebook experience • Genre source-of-term (655 subfield 2) was removed from subject browse display to avoid user confusion.
Assessment source: Report-a- problem • 7% of problems reported are related to e-books • Saturday and Sunday have almost equal number of questions. (The same is true if we limit to Springer questions only—there are equal numbers on Saturday and Sunday.) Are there staffing implications?
