  3. Parts of an Email Account • Inbox • A storage area for incoming messages • Outbox • A storage area for holding messages to be sent to others • Address Book • A storage area for the user’s most frequently used addresses

  4. Parts of an Email • Heading • An area that includes the address of the recipient and a subject line • Body • The section where the text of the message is keyed • Signature Footer • A place to record the writers name, title, business name, address, telephone number • Attachments • A section for attaching files containing text and/or graphics

  5. When you send an email… • Make message courteous • Use basic rules of grammar, spelling and punctuation • Keep messages short and to the point • Don’t use all capital letters SHOUTING • Avoid using smiley’s and other pictures, unprofessional in workplace • Check e-mail address before send

  6. When you send an email… • Use acronyms sparingly (BTW = by the way) • Don’t send an email you wouldn’t want others to read • Not private at work • Never give your user id and password to others

  7. When you receive an email… • Check mailbox frequently • Honor other’s right to privacy (don’t forward message without asking) • Avoid sending chain letters
