Mrs. Greblo’s 1A, 2A, & 4A Sophomore English Agenda: 1/24/13 Please copy this agenda down into your Learning Log Notebook, you will receive credit for it! • 2A ONLY: Assembly (45 mins.) • Attendance /(Get Writing Folders and LLNs to your desk before SSR is over – send one person to get your stuff at the file cabinet, please .) • Agenda: (1A/2A) #13; (4A) #12 • Announcements: • We have THREE class periods until the END of semester 1 (including today)! • Your persuasive essay is due next Wednesday (last day of the semester). • Persuasive writing • Persuasive “T-Graph” Warm-up • Break • Research Time / Essay Work Time • Return LLNs and Writing Folders to the LLN File Cabinet NEATLY, please! • Objective(s): • Listen attentively • Read to determine and analyze: complex characters, the central idea of the text and its development, how the author unfolds an analysis or series of ideas or events, an author’s point of view or cultural experience, the meanings of words or phrases as they are used in a text, author’s choices on the structure of a text and the order of events • Write routinely over extended time frames for a range of tasks, purposes and audiences • Homework: for next class… • Bring your SSR book to class next period!
Persuasive Essay Assignment Copy this info onto a sheet of loose leaf paper to be kept in your binder- NOT IN YOUR LLN! Handwritten in blue/black ink or typed (size 12 pt. font, Times New Roman) Include page numbers (place them: bottom of the page, center) At least FIVE paragraphs (each paragraph must have at least 6 sentences): Introduction, Body 1, Body 2, Body 3, Conclusion You must state your issue and your position on the issue clearly in a thesis(position) statement in the introduction paragraph. You must include THREE arguments/reasons for your position. To back up your arguments/reasons you MUST have facts/statistics stated in your essay. (Do not worry about making a works cited page for this essay BUT, CITE YOUR SOURCES IN YOUR ESSAY ITSELF). Include a short and creative title (“Persuasive Essay” is NOT a title!) The essay is due: Next Wednesday, 1/30/13 (last day of the semester). I WILL NOT ACCEPT LATE ESSAYS.
