Chlorine: Why is it so bad? • Problem: Dangerous chemicals are being used in the recycling process • To recycle paper, people use chlorine. Chlorine “produces dioxin, a toxic, carcinogenic chemical that makes its way into the air and water” causing harmful effects on the body(www.ehow.com).
Chlorine: Why is it so bad? • If we are exposed to chlorine it can make us feel debilitated and could eventually kill us .If it is not treated quickly enough, there is a high possibility of death. (pure-earth.com) It also can cause cancer especially colon cancer.
Process of Recycling Step 1.Collection • Variety of methods of collecting materials( curbside, drop-off centers, buy-back centers, and deposit/refund programs) Step 2. Processing • Clean • Sort the paper by type and grade , such as printer paper , colored paper)
Process of Recycling • Making Paper • Shredded and placed into a large vat along with water and other chemicals to make a thick pulp. 3.Pulp is rinsed 4.Spread onto large flat racks 5.Rollers will press the water out o the pulp 6.As it dries it creates paper (ehow.com)
Benefits of using without Chlorine • First, it lacks the need to put chlorine in the process. Chlorine can be very toxic and harm many people due to it’s harm. • Second, it’s not necessary. People can write and read just as well. People are so used to the idea of perfectly white paper when they don’t realize the ability of brown paper.
Conclusion In conclusion, We want to help to improve the environment by limiting the use of chlorine , so that we can decrease chlorine pollution.
