AR and STAR Update • Our students reading levels and abilities continue to show growth. • 15 out of 25 students met and/or exceeded their 3rd quarter AR points goal. • 11 out of 25 students met and/or exceeded ALL of their 3rd quarter AR goals. • The majority of our students maintained an average percent of 85% or greater. • For fourth quarter, our class goals are to have all of our students earn at least 10 points and to have at least half of our class or more to meet and exceed their goals. • Encourage nonfiction reading. • All but three students are now reading at or above grade level!
Quarterly Test Results • Math – 66% proficient • Reading – 70% proficient • Our scores were ABOVE the system average! • The majority of our students made growth in both their reading and math scores.
How can I help my student prepare for the EOG? • Read, read, read! – Push your child to read for longer amounts of time each night – the reading EOG is a test of endurance! • Incorporate fiction, nonfiction, and consumer (recipes, advertisements, brochures, ect.) texts. • Ask them comprehension questions after reading. • Begin reviewing math concepts learned in fourth grade NOW! – Have your student bring home their notebook and textbook to review those skills nightly. www.ixl.com • Sample test items can be found on the State’s education website: www.ncpublicschool.org
Volunteers Needed • We are in need of volunteers to help proctor this year’s EOG tests. • The tests are May 23rd – 27th. • If you think you would be able to help out, or know someone who would like to volunteer, please let Nela Hawley know. She can be contacted here at school.
Thank you for coming! We are looking forward to a FANTASTIC end to 4th Grade!
