  1. The Dos and Don’ts of Lipedema Lipedema which affects the lower body is due to fat accumulating irregularly on the lower body. Over time, the blockage around the blood vessels and lymphatics cause fluid retention in these spaces leading to lymphoedema. Although the cause is unknown, it is usually seen in women and can be attributed to hormonal changes after puberty, childbirth, or menopause. Typically the lower limbs gradually become bulky, loose their skin quality and tend to bruise easily. As the condition progresses, it may also begin in the upper limbs. Here are a few do’s and don’ts while tackling lipedema: Manual lymphatic drainage: Lymphatic drainage techniques help in improving circulation in the lower body and mobilizing retained fluids in the lower body. Compression Wear compression stockings throughout the day. Get your compression garments checked every 6 months. If required, wear bandages at night. Clothing and accessories
