Have a basic understanding of how patients experience illness and health care in their everyday lives; • Understand the value of taking account of patients’ perspectives; • Be able to describe the major patterns of health and health inequalities in the UK; • Be able to describe how socio-economic position, gender and ethnicity shape health, health experiences and access to good health care; • Understand and critically appraise the main explanations for health inequalities and current approaches to tackling them; • Be able to describe the range and basic roles of professionals working to meet the health needs of patients in the community; • Demonstrate an awareness of the professional requirement to adopt appropriate attitudes and behaviour towards patients, colleagues and other health and social care workers.
